The meaning of the noun word "visa" in the 21st century

The dictionary online site merriam-webster shows the version of the noun word "visa" :  "…a signature of formal approval by a superior upon a document…" was used just as commonly as it is now most applicable in the 21st century as a means of entry into a particular country, but this now fraught with political implications noun word "visa" has become a political discourse, too, in the year 2025, that has widened into a POV involving a political party, the immigration purpose of this noun word "visa" with the first definition now used exclusively, even to the sentence merriam-webster offers with the use of this noun word has the mention of the Trump administration: "First, the State Department is canceling visas due to an exercise of free speech that administration officials find objectionable…" a political statement, that is unusual for a well-known always apolitical dictionary of words and meanings, not political opinions.
However, Cambridge.org dispenses with political opinion in offering sample sentences, instead concentrates on the noun word "visa" with a 21st century meaning, using examples of the noun word "visa" in various countries to qualify for permission to enter,  and this noun word defines a system of immigration into various countries around the world, too.
As well, the Google search was remarkably POV free and politically benign: "…an endorsement on a passport indicating that the holder is allowed to enter, leave, or stay for a specified period of time in a country…" this word definition came from Oxford dictionary,  And I have included another dictionary site, vocabulary.com that examples the 21st century meaning of the word, but without any political POV and with more of an international global definition as would be used to reference other countries around the world.
My research proves that the 21st century meaning of the word "visa" has overtaken the definition to the extent that even a usually reliable and apolitical website like Merriam-webster has become entangled in something other than definitions of words, which saddens me, but then this why I pursue blogging about words plus meanings, to enlighten and often dumbfound about the use of words in ways that defines this contentious 21st century.
