What is the significance of the noun word
"activist"?
Currently, the global world is in a time of change, and unrest, coupled with dissatisfaction with government, as well, economic concerns has produced
issues that will bring strong opinions and public protests.
According the dictionary site merriam-webster.com, an
"activist" is someone who takes strong positions, and will actively
protest against something that is perceived as wrong, or unjust, and will lend
support to those who champion a controversial issue, the list of causes can
dovetail with investing, for instance, an activist shareholder who feels the
Board of Directors or CEO is taking the company in the wrong direction, additionally, an "activist" takes a strong position about issues that are very political in nature thus attending public protests is a
cornerstone activity for such an activist.
The dictionary.cambridge.org cites an "activist"
as someone who believes strongly in social or political change.
Interestingly,
Britannica.com dictionary cites an "activist as someone who wants
social or political change and protests in public demonstrations, which seems
to define what is happening now politically, insofar as opposition to the
current administration, and the war Israel is waging against HAMAS, which has
produced protests in the streets globally by activists who believe Israel
shouldn't exist.
The Wikipedia.org website I've included gives a thorough
overview of activism as it exists today, and in other times, remarkably, activism emerged in 1914 in the political
sense, and has thrived ever since.
I've included 'Judicial activism', which has, especially in 2025, become a successful strategy by the minority party in the USA, to oppose any and all initiatives taken by the
current administration, moreover, the current 'Judicial activism' is defined as a Judicial philosophy that goes
beyond the law, and cites an action taken by the Executive
branch of our Federal system of government as inconsistent with the values of the 'activist Judge" who is hearing the case, however, the ruling will be in
support of some societal or other considerations that affords a remedy to benefit the minority political party's message.
More broadly, the activist judges will
issue a ruling based on their own point of view, and Wikipedia.org cites
Judicial activism as political in nature and concerns 'separation of powers' as
it is considered under our Federal Republic system of government.
