The noun word "primer"

There are interesting words like "primer" that are descriptive for a certain use, but my research has found other definitions that aren't currently used in the context of a way of providing information, and I would suspect that the many other usages I found that are not the descriptive "paint" primer will be another surprise.
For example, dictionary.cambridge.org, has the noun word "primer" the foundation for makeup, but then offers a stunning variety of other meanings, such as "a talk, experience, etc. that provides information from which you can learn."
Another website, collinsdictionary has named the noun "primer" as either "mass" which refers to the descriptive definition reference to paint, and "countable" when used to define a certain form of information, and this site offers many definitions of providing it, however, I continued to explore others.
Such as Britannica.com that had the primary definition within the context of an informational usage, and with a sentence to further illustrate usage, "The article is an excellent primer on foreign policy."
And oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com refers to "count noncount" when defining the descriptive re paint primer, but "count" when it is informational, "chiefly US : something (such as a book) that provides basic information on a particular subject."
Moreover, my research has revealed that the noun word "primer" when used specifically as an informational is only defined that way in the US.
